I’ve always been into beauty and skin care, but as I entered my second trimester my skincare worries soared to new heights, and so I set out to build my skin care collection to help keep the stretch marks at bay. Below are the items that have served me well over the past 6 months.
Buffy Body Butter Bar by LUSH $12.95
It wasn’t until I used this body butter bar that I even realized I had any stretch marks. That’s how much dead skin is sloughed away. Gross, right? But still kind of awesome. For that reason, I am in love hate relationship with the Buffy Bar by LUSH. It’s made of exfoliating ground rice, almonds and beans in a creamy cocoa and shea butter base so it removes dead skin and moisturizes at the same time, revealing smoother, brighter skin…that may or may not be covered in stretch marks.
Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner by LUSH $35.95
The price tag is high compared to other items on this list, but once you slather on this rose-scented body conditioner you will wonder where it’s been all your life. Use this right after you cleanse your skin with your regular soap or body wash. Just massage it all over your body and then rinse it off to deeply moisturize your skin. The sweet smell of vanilla coupled with the aroma of rose will fill your bathroom and linger on your skin all day. When used right after the Buffy Bar, your skin will shine like it never has before.
Mother’s Wellness Stretch Mark Blend by Saje $29.95
The smell of this alone is reason enough to pick it up, and the reason why I will probably continue using it once I’ve given birth. Add two teaspoons of oil to a warm bath for an ultra soothing experience. As I mentioned in my Prenatal Pampering post, its important to add oils to your bath to help soften your skin and avoid potential perineum tearing. You can (and should) also use this as a massage oil. Just run the bottle under warm water to heat up the oil.
If you don’t have Bio-Oil you need to run out and get it ASAP! This should be applied twice daily to problem (read:purple!) areas in a circular motion. I apply Bio-Oil in the morning after a shower and before bed time. It fights the probability of permanent stretch marks by maximizing your skins elasticity. I was always a Bio-Oil user before, but now I am officially addicted to it, and my skin just soaks it up.
Nivea Q10 Plus Firming Body Lotion $8.97
Sometimes the simplest products are more than enough. I use this as an all over body moisturizer every morning, after I’ve applied my oil, and after every bath or shower. It isn’t as heavy as NIVEA’s regular cream, and it absorbs quickly and evenly. However, I don’t feel like its really firming my skin. I’ve been applying it to areas of my body that have cellulite and I haven’t seen any difference. TI am on the hunt for a new firming lotion for those specific problem areas, but this works as an all over moisturizer.
